Re-birth

The epicenter of the 2004 earthquake was just 150 miles from the tribal island of Katchal where my family resided at that time. I and my family barely made it. The Tsunami wiped out the majority of the habited area of the island with only a few survivors.

Mom, I did it once more!

I received a fellowship from the central government to pursue my undergraduate education in mainland India (since there are no colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands). I received my undergraduate degree with distinction from PSG College of Technology, Anna University, India. I was awarded a Gold medal for proficiency in civil engineering for my overall performance in the undergraduate program.

As adulthood took over

Post attaining an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, I took upon a technical advisory role in an Andaman and Nicobar based 40-year-old construction company that is responsible for the construction of some of the largest infrastructures of the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Apart from the technical advisory role, my primary responsibility is to guide and counsel the investment wing of the business.

Not quite the Doctor that my mother wanted me to be

I received my M.S. degree (2016), and Ph.D. (2019) from UCSD’s Department of Structural Engineering. My Ph.D. research was summarized in the dissertation titled:

“Theoretical Development of Framed Space Curve and Its Applications to Higher-order Geometrically-exact Rod Theory, Shape Sensing, Path Estimation, and Computer Graphics”

Post-doctoral fellowship

Following Ph.D., I started post-doctoral fellowship in 2020 at UCSD and actively worked in US Army Corps. of Engineers (USACE) related projects.

Hedge Fund

In 2021, I with Shem Weissman founded a quantitative investment hedge fund, LogSpi LP. The fund aims to utilize quantitative patterns in investable markets (anything that is liquid) to build an actionable edge and target long-term capital growth for accredited investors. Currently, the fund is not open to public.

Asst. Adjunct Professorship

In 2023, I was appointed as an Asst. Adjunct Professor in the department of Structural Engineering at University of California, San Diego. Apart from my business activities, I spend my time actively solving research problems and occasionally teaching mechanics courses at UC San Diego. My primary research interests and current research revolves around problems in Applied Mechanics (my first love) and application of risk analysis, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning to optimal decision making.

Early Education

Up until 2002, I did my schooling at Katchal Island. Due to the lack of a better school at Katchal, my parents braved to send me to a boarding school in Dalhousie between 2002 and 2005. The rest of my education occurred at Port Blair.
